Today was couch cleaning day. Okay, no, I don’t really have a day designated for couch cleaning. Here’s what happened:
I was putting away some dishes and I noticed that some of Bubbie’s sippy cup valves were stained from the V8 he drinks, and I thought I might boil them since it had been a while since I did that.
Then I thought, “I might as well do the binkies, too. Where are all of the binkies?”
So I went to his room and cleaned there.
And then I checked our room.
And then I thought there might be a bink or two in the couch.
[I have serious cleaning ADD. I joke that my life is just one big “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.”]
Now that you’re caught up, we’re vacuuming the couch. :)
So, Peyton is scared of the vacuum. (He gets that from his Dad.) While I vacuumed the rug, he whimpered and whined like a scared little puppy, so I made him sit on the couch so he would “be safe.” Then, I had to think of something to distract him while I vacuumed the couch. Well duh! THE CUSHIONS!!!
Can you find him amidst the rubble? One of my intentions for this year is to be more real. To snap the picture even though my house is messy. To realize it doesn’t all have to be perfect. So… welcome to my not-so-perfect living room.
I realize that I’m not the first mom to give her kid the couch cushions to play with, but let me tell you, after the week we’ve been having, I count this as a victory. He was amused and entertained for the better part of 30 minutes. THAT’S A BIG DEAL!!!
And when the cushions started to lose their novelty…
BAM! Another 15 minutes of fun playing on the couch in its naked state. We like to be naked around here. Okay, mostly just Peyton. The kid hates pants. It took a lot of bargaining just to get a shirt on him this morning. But I’m not going to fuss over that stuff… I have much bigger battles to fight.
He started to get tired, and didn’t realize I was watching. Such a doll! I just love that face and all of his beautiful expressions.
My Little Helper and I got a lot done today. From cleaning the couch to laundry to sorting a Scentsy order, I’m feeling pretty accomplished. And a little tired…
Peyton also really loves helping me with laundry. When I went to lay him down for his nap he was begging to stay up. Our conversation went a little like this:
Me: “It’s time for a nap, Bubbie-liscious!”
P: “No, Momma. One mo’ minute.”
Me: “No, Baby, you already had lots of minutes. I have to do some boring things, like work and laundry, so you sleep and when it’s time to have fun I’ll come get you.”
P: [starts crying] “NO MOMMA!! Me help!!”
Me: “What do you want to help me with? I will save it for you.”
Seriously. He cried because he thought I was going to finish the laundry without him. Who says chores have to be hard when you have a toddler around? Just enlist their help and time flies. He pulls every piece out like it’s a prize to guess who it belongs to, and he LOVES to pull out daddy’s underwear and say “MOMMY!” or find one of my shirts and yell “Taytin!!” (his own name). He thinks he’s hilarious! (But, then again, so do I.)
